Fashion

The fashion for the 80’s was rather interesting. I mean if you like leggings with mini skirts and mullets then you’re all set. For women, the eighties fashion was bold, colorful, and in some cases outrageous. Something that after the 80’s, they just stowed away in their closets. Exercise clothes for women consisted of the generic headband and legwarmers along with leotards. If you’ve seen Flashdance, you’ve seen how Jennifer Beal wears her sports shirt off her shoulder. This soon sparked something in the world of fashion and caused women to start wearing their shirts like this as well. On the male behalf, their biggest influences came from Michael Jackson but then also Metallica. Michael Jackson influenced the studded jackets to slouchy oversized tops. Meanwhile, the polar opposite was the Metallica influence which consisted of torn jeans and bandanas around their teased hair. Also, they wore things such as track suits and pushed up shirts with open jackets.
Music
Some of the most memorable songs from the eighties consist of Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners, to Physical by Olivia Newton-John (you know, the one that repeats the phrase “Let’s get physical, physical.”). There is also something described as the “Second British Invasion,” where most music from england was more electronic, synthesizer type of music. Examples of these bands are Duran Duran and Culture Club. Although the music described as classic rock, such as ACDC and Styx, originated from this specific decade. Overall, you can’t exactly label the 80’s with a specific type of music because it was when a bunch of new artists came out such as Michael Jackson.

In the 1980’s, horror movies became wildly popular compared to others. But that doesn’t mean the others weren’t popular as well. One of the most memorable horrors of the 80’s is The Shining. I’m pretty sure we all know it because of the “Heeere's Johnny!” part, but the movie as a whole is just brilliant. It’s a psychological thriller inspired by one of Stephen King's books. Other than that, Back to the Future is another memorable movie. Consisting of Marty McFly (Micheal J. Fox) and Christopher Llyod (Emmett Brown) where they go into the future, and also back in time in the sequel. From the movie, it goes into 2015 where they have things such as hoverboards (which I am still waiting on). For Tv shows, a very popular one for teenagers what saved by the bell. On it was (previous) teenage heartthrob Zack Morris. Saved by the Bell was a light comedy with six teenagers who go to Bayside Highschool. In this it consists of crushes, pranks and a principle who tries to keep them all in check.

"fads"
Many of the Fads of the 80’s is still a bit popular today. Especially the phrase “PYSCHE!” or “NOT!”. Which is used as an exclamation that contradicts your previous statement. For example, Bob and Tom and chatting when Bob asks, “Tom, do you like my new shirt?” and Tom replies with, “Yes! It’s totally rad.” Bob questions him again by saying, “Really?” and then Tom yells, “PYSCHE!” Meaning Tom, in fact, does not believe Bob’s new shirt is “rad.” In the 1980’s was when this phrase began to build itself into common conversations. Also, break dancing became a very popular form of dance. You may of seen people break dance in older dance themed movies such as “Beat Street.” It was just to hip hop music and became wildly used in parties. Most of the movies when you see people break dance, you see them in track suits or baggy pants, which is quite funny. Ah, the 80’s.
