Nixon had made the decision to slowly start to withdraw troops from Vietnam in 1970. Once the U.S. military personnel had reached 540,000 troops he began to order the mission. Over in Paris talks of peace had been debated, but little progress was made. Nixon started to expand the war and at the same time the US and ally South Vietnam began to invade Cambodia. This was in order to destroy all North Vietnamese military sanctuaries. In the late 1970’s the number of troops in Vietnam had decreased to 335,000. One year later the number had then dropped to 160,000.

The Energy Crisis took place in October back in 1973. Gas prices started to rise to obscene prices. Assumptions were destructed when an oil embargo led by OAPEC was the cause of higher fuel prices. Even after Yom Kippur, limitations continued. Oil prices went from $3 per barrel all the way up to $12 per barrel. National and State leaders encouraged American citizens to conserve energy. The embargo also caused a huge blow towards the American automotive industry. This embargo not only affected us but also great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark. Fortunately the embargo was lifted in 1974 in March but left a lasting impact on the United States.
