Ronald Reagan was a man of many names, such as Ronnie, Ronald the Right, and most popularly, The Great Communicator. He was president from 1981 to 1989, and before his presidency he was a governor of California, following to becoming a career in acting. During his presidency, he underwent some hardships. But his presidency did consist of promises of big tax cuts and smaller government, and once he took office he put these into action. He advocated for the government to reduce their spending and tax cuts for individuals as well as corporations. This was later known as supply-side economics. As well as other american leaders, he had to struggle with the cold war and shared the same belief that communism threatened everyone’s freedom. From this, the administration was tempted to provide military and financial aid to any country that had an anti-communist government. This policy was known as the Reagan Doctrine.

Fall of the berlin wall
On November 9th, 1989, the spokesman for East Berlin Communist Party spread word that there was a change in relations with his city with the West. At midnight that day, civilians of West Berlin and East Berlin would be allowed to cross the wall. Everyone began gathering around with champagne to celebrate. They all began to chant, “Tor Auf!” which means open the gate. Once the gates were open, they all flooded through the gates. Shockingly, over two million East berliners visited East Berlin to participate in an event. One journalist wrote it was, “The greatest street party in the world.” This event consisted of people using picks and hammers to knock down chunks of the wall. Soon, the wall was completely gone and the people were united for the first time since 1945.
